White rice is the main staple in South Indian diet and its taste is alluring. Most of the dishes ranging from the nutritious Idly to the sumptuous biryani are all made of rice. It is a known fact that white rice is high in calories and mandates a rigorous fitness regime to get rid of the excess calories.
Our snacks murukku, sev, gulab jamun, mysore pahu, jilebee are drenched in either oil, ghee or milk. These sugary savories do more damage to the body than the sweetness they impart.
Our diet is killing us silently and it is essential to include other grains that are high in nutrition and less in calories. The high calorie rice is to be taken in moderation to prevent the accumulation of excess sugar in our body. Rice also has a high GI (glycemic Index), which means it is broken and digested easily, making us feel empty and lets us indulging unhealthy snacks.
